Coastline Adventure Drive - Yakumo Edition

March 23,2024 OA

Did you know that Yakumo Town is the birthplace of the iconic Hokkaido souvenir, the "wooden bear carving"? (There are various theories about its origin.) And it's celebrating its 100th anniversary this year, marking a significant milestone! Nowadays, these bears come in various expressions, perfectly fitting the times, and some tourists even have their favorite picks among them.
Our journey leads us to visit the farms producing Yakumo Town's specialty, the "soft white onions." It's the perfect season for them, so we couldn't resist tasting them fresh from the harvest! What do you think they taste like?
When it comes to the specialties of the Kumaishi area on the Sea of Japan side, "abalone" stands out. We heard about a place offering great eats for an unbelievable price, so we couldn't resist checking it out – a lively sushi restaurant run by a cheerful couple. What appeared before our eyes was truly a "mountain" of fresh seafood, living up to its reputation, and the price? Surprisingly reasonable!

Hokkaido Coastline Adventure Drive - Exploring Urakawa

March 09,2024 OA

Hopping into the on-chan car, our hosts embark on the traditional spring drive through the town of Urakawa, where the early signs of spring are already in the air. Their first stop? The renowned strawberry farm, "Suga Farm," representing the town's specialty produce. Mr. Suga's strawberries, sampled even in private by Li Qiang before, have left him awestruck like never before! These strawberries, said to be almost impossible to obtain due to their immense popularity, are indeed a delicacy. Even Yurie, who adores strawberries, gives them her seal of approval!
Next, they indulge in sweets made with Mr. Suga's strawberries at a local confectionery in the town center. Among them is the strawberry daifuku, still in the experimental stage but impressively delicious with its unique twist added to the red bean paste. The duo can't help but sing its praises. (Note: This delicacy is scheduled for release on March 9th, coinciding with this show’s on-air date.)
Invited by the energetic Mr. Okubo, a born and bred Urakawa local, the pair is whisked away to the snowy mountains, where they encounter rare creatures seldom seen in the area...

Exploring the Winter Charms of Tokachi Region Part 2

March 02,2024 OA

Discover the deep winter delights of Tokachi through this trip!
While “buta-don” pork bowls are the area's popular delicacy, we've heard rumors of a rival delicacy being made in Shimizu Town. Our hosts take a visit to try this new dish featuring miso-seasoned beef as a counter to the sweet and savory soy sauce-based pork bowl. Is it a worthy dish to satisfy our Tokachi meat cravings?
In Obihiro, the latest snack sensation on the market is none other than "Potato Kenpi." But wait, these aren't made with sweet potatoes; they're from regular Tokachi-grown potatoes! Dip them in honey made from Tokachi sugar beets for an unforgettable taste experience.
Seeking the ultimate winter adventure, we head to Niikappu Town. Along the frozen lake shore lies a row of saunas known as the "holy land." But there's more to it than meets the eye. Rumor has it, there's an ultimate ice bath experience where you plunge into a hole cut into the frozen lake... What awaits? Tune in to find out!
