“Hokuto City: A Journey into Tradition”

September 13,2025 OA

This week we’re headed to Hokuto City, the gateway to southern Hokkaido! From a 300-year-old weeping cherry tree to the historic Trappist Monastery, this city is full of sights steeped in history and beauty.
But Hokuto is also famous for its seas—where fine sandy beds create the perfect environment for surf clams. Li Qiang and Yurie try their hand at a rare, traditional surf clam fishing method, and Yurie just might make a miracle catch!? Afterwards, the two savor exquisite surf clam dishes at a local sushi spot and a French restaurant that puts a gourmet twist on this local treasure.
